Candle Stick Charting Terms and examples


Long White Candle (Bullish)
Long Body on up move with minimal shadows


Long Black Candle (Bearish)
Long Body on down move with minimal shadows


Bullish Engulfing (Very Bullish)
Candle body covers all of previous day's range


Bearish Engulfing (Very Bearish)
Candle body covers all of previous day's range


Marazubo
Long candle with No shadows. Open and close make up high and low of the day


Doji (Indecision)
Minimal Body with shadows both up and down


Another Doji (Indecision)
Minimal Body with shadows both up and down


Long Legged Doji ( Probing Indecision) Minimal body with long lower shadow


Harami Cross (Continuation)
Basically a doji in the middle of a move not floating above or below previous price action


Hammer or
Paper Umbrella (Reversal Signal)
Hammer at bottom of down cycle, called Hanging man at top of an up cycle


Gravestone Doji ( Reversal Signal)
Minimal Body with long upper shadow


Another Gravestone Doji ( Reversal Signal)
Minimal Body with long upper shadow


Evening Star (Very Bearish Reversal)
Small doji floating above price action. Requires confirmation next day leaving gap down


Abandoned Baby ( Very Bullish Reversal)
Small doji gap down at bottom of move. Requires confirmation gap up next day


Tweezer Top (Reversal)
Long White candle followed by long black candle at tops, can also be bottoming signal in reverse order. Candles should almost match in length


Inverted Paper Umbrella (Reversal)
Same shape as Gravestone but usually found at bottoms instead of tops


3 Black Crows (Very Bearish)
White candles instead of black is called 3 white soldiers and is bullish. If there is no gap between them, then it is called Identicle and carries even more weight


Spinning Top (Indecision but often reversal)
Small bodied Doji near tops and bottoms


In neck (continuation / bearish following black candle)
Candle that has shadow piercing previous days action but body stays with previous candles close ( Can't hold gains)
